The hugely popular Cape Town Festival is back with the twofold aim of instilling some chest swelling pride in Cape Town - our wonderful destination, and showcasing it to the world as a proudly African city.
We’re just as tired of hearing how eurocentric Cape Town is when all we want to be is African.
With this in mind, the Cape Town Festival, born out of the 'One City, Many Cultures' campaign, reaches out to Africa to make its presence felt. Festival organisers have negotiated with popular African artists such as Angolan R&B singer Ansellmo Ralph and Nigerian Two Face Idibia of African Queen fame to grace the Cape Town Festival stages. Word to the wise – get out your party shoes, it’s going to be mega!
The festival in 2009 attracted more than 32 000 people over three days. Numbers are bound to be equally exciting this year as it runs over four days due to the Human Rights Day long weekend, 19 – 22 March. Festival goers need to get themselves to the Company Gardens in Queen Victoria Road and remember, each and every event linked to Cape Town Festival is free so bring all your people and enjoy the good vibes together.
Friday’s programme on 19 March kicks off with a range of musical styles, while Saturday is geared towards the youth. Sunday’s programme will feature mainly jazz music and that brings us to Monday for the popular Community Vibrations Concert which showcases artists from the three community festivals
