This ‘theatrical tribal potion’ was first seen by Johannesburg audiences at the 2010 FNB Dance Umbrella as Sbonakaliso Ndaba’s commissioned work-in-progress, ‘1st Draft’. The work traces life’s chess game, playing it back as fragments: our ways of seeing and doing, our gestures, our natures, our vices, our virtues. As we peel off our outer layers, we are left bare in the real world: vulnerable, exposed and beautiful.
An exploration of the complexities of humanity, this work has been praised as ‘powerful’, ‘striking’ and ‘hypnotic’.
