Constantia Nek to Kirstenbosch Gardens |
|
|
Get a group
of friends & family together and meet at the Kirstenbosch
Gardens car park. Leave a car there and drive to Constantia
Nek. Start with the plan of having brunch at Kirstenbosch
after a fantastic mountain walk with great views. The walk
has mild uphill sections but is mainly flat and downhill,
making it not very strenuous. It’s just enough exercise
to work up a healthy appetite. One of the best views on the
walk is the aerial view of Kirstenbosch with the towering
slopes of Table Mountain to the left. An alternative option
to brunch at Kirstenbosch is to pack a picnic and take it
with you on the hike. When you reach Kirstenbosch, explore
the gardens and find a spot to relax and enjoy the meal you
have brought with. A walk like this reminds you how special
Cape Town truly is.

Route Description:
• Meet at the car park at Kirstenbosch Gardens. Leave a car
there and drive to Constantia Nek.
• From Constantia Nek follow the road for 500m until you reach
a fork. Take the left fork heading upwards.
• Continue straight along this road. You will pass a road forking
up to the right and later on a road that goes down to the left but
just continue straight along this road.
• The road ends at a top of a hill, where it becomes a single
track path that takes you up some steps. At the top of these steps
you catch your first glimpse of Kirstenbosch.
• Here, there is a path that leads down to the right and one
that continues along to the left… take the left path.
• This single track path continues round into Nursery Ravine
over a stream then round into Skeleton Gorge.
• There are numerous paths leading down to Kirstenbosch but
continue along the path crossing streams and two wooden bridges.
• Shortly after the second wooden bridge you will come across
a fork in the path. There is a sign at this fork that indicates the
left path heading towards “Contour path, Rhodes memorial &
Silvertree trail. The other sign for the right fork reads “Kirstenbosch”.
Take this Kirstenbosch path.
• This path leads you down some steps until it hits a gravel
road.
• Don’t take the road leading down, but rather turn right
and follow the road until you reach the next path down to the left.
There is a sign pointing out the path that will read “Garden/Tuin”
• Follow this path down into the gardens.
