This, often
unexplored mountain walk, will take you from Constantia Nek
to Hout Bay. Along the way you will be treated to amazing
views of the Hout Bay valley. The best views however, are
saved for last. As you approach the end of the walk you come
over a small rise to the best part of the walk, with magnificent
panoramic views of Hout Bay. Take your camera for some memorable
pictures. The walk itself is quite tiring, with a very steep
beginning section. Once you have made your first climb up
Vlakkenberg, you go down into the valley the climb again to
reach the contour path on the Constantiaberg. This section
of path can be quite overgrown so wear long pants if you are
worried about scratching your legs along the way. Take plenty
of refreshments as the walk is quite strenuous. This is a
great hike, so enjoy!

overgrown.
Difficulty: Steep,
undulating terrain and the distance of this walk
make it a fairly difficult hike which requires a
certain degree of fitness.

Route Description:
• To start off you will need to take two cars. Meet at Hout
Bay Beach and leave one car parked in the parking area at Hout Bay
Beach, at the base of Chapman’s Peak.
• Drive to the start at Constantia Nek - You will find a parking
area at the top of Nek at the traffic circle. It’s on the left
hand side of the road (coming from Hout Bay). Parking is free, but
there is often a car guard so be sure to bring some spare change with
you for a tip.
• From Constantia Nek walk back down the road towards Hout Bay.
• Enter the Silvermist Estate gate on the left had side approximately
200m down, on your left hand side.
• After passing the security gate take the path up to the left
on the grass bank
• Follow the road all the way up to reception area.
• At reception take a dirt road to your left. This becomes a
single track path going up along the side of the fence.
• You then reach a road and a rocky single track path, just
above it to the left. Take the single track path which runs up along
the side of the road.
• Follow the steep path all the way to the top. You will cross
two small streams where you can take a refreshing drink.
• Walk down into the valley then up the other side until you
reach a tarred road.
• Walk approximately 50m up the road until you reach a single
track path on your right.
• This is a contour path that will take you all the way around
the side of the mountain to Chapmans Peak Drive.
• From Chapmans Peak follow the road down to the beach. |
