The Echo
Valley hike is a fantastic walk that will take you through
undulating terrain in the Silvermine Nature Reserve. You will
need to leave one car at the end point on Boyes Drive and
then drive to the start at Silvermine. Once the lifts have
been organized you can concentrate on the amazing views and
the natural beauty of the fauna and flora along the walk.
After climbing up and over the Ridge peak you will start to
head down into Echo Valley.
The walk will take you onto a
wooden boardwalk which winds its way through the small forest.
Exiting the forest you will begin to see views of False Bay
and the quaint Kalk Bay harbour with its colourful fishing
boats. The walks ends on Boyes Drive but a great way to end
you hike is to visit the Kalk Bay Town below.

Route Description:
• To start off you will need to take two cars. Meet at Boyes
drive and leave one car parked opposite the trail that is marked Echo
Valley. (Above Kalk Bay)
• Drive to the start at Silvermine - You will find a parking
area at the top of Ou Kaapseweg, on the left hand side (coming from
Cape Town), just as the road starts to head down again. Parking is
R5 so be sure to bring some change with you.
• From the parking area you will head right, towards Muizenberg,
along a gravel road.
• The gravel road heads gradually downhill until you reach a
concrete bridge that crosses over the river.
• The gravel road then starts climbing upwards.
• In roughly 5-10 minutes you will need to take a single track
trail, which is on your right hand side. This will take you off the
road, up and over the Ridge Peak and into Echo Valley.
• As you come down into Echo Valley you will hit a sandy amphitheatre
and a sign post. From hear you will continue down into Echo valley.
• Soon you will hit the wooden walkway taking you through the
Echo Valley forest.
• Upon exiting the forest you continue down towards Kalk bay
walking down rocky stairs.
• You end up popping out on Boyes Drive.
* This walk can of course be done
in the other direction. |
