| The name ‘RUSTICUS’ is
a latin word meaning “of” or “belonging
to the land”. This ancient translation embodies an
inspiration and philosophy to handcraft fine natural wines
following traditional methods. The Busch Family had been
nurturing vineyards for many years before they decided
to produce their own wines. It was only in 2002 that the
first red grapes were harvested using the antique wine
making equipment and machinery that had been collected
piece by piece. The red grapes are primarily grown at the
foothills of the Langeberg Mountains on south facing slopes
and central valleys providing a rather special terroir,
very unique to the Robertson area. Stephan Busch, Pat’s
youngest son, has recently taken over the wine making & management
of the small cellar based outside Robertson. |

Pinot Noir
Bright clear crimson in the glass with fine ground pepper, red summer
berries and whiffs of vanilla on the nose. Sun-ripened, dark red
sour cherries with oak & peppery spiciness on the palate. Soft
tannins complemented by balanced berry fruits with the spicy vanilla
notes creating a graceful mouth feel. Lingering peppery & vanilla
finish with hints of earthiness. Accompanies light meals of veal,
chicken, rare meats and light pastas. This wine is already drinking
well but will definitely mature well and achieve more complexity
within the next three to four years. Cellar well at consistent temperature,
ideally 16-18 degrees. |
Merlot
Bright ruby in colour with aromas of ripe spicy plums, red berries
and hints of vanilla toasted oak. Summer berries on the palate combine
with sweet red plums, faint hints of milk chocolate and spicy vanilla
flavours. Medium to full bodied red wine with a plum & spicy
fruit cake balance, complemented by soft tannins and a lingering
subtle oak caramel finish. Ideal with most meals including pastas,
veal, pork and red meat dishes. This is a full bodied Merlot which
should mature and continue to improve within the next five years.
Cellar well at consistent temperature, ideally 16-18 degrees. |
Cabernet Sauvignon
Dense garnet with very dark purple hues. Ripe black berry, cassis and
cedar wood on the nose. Follows through onto the palate with dark
berry and spicy cigar box notes. Full bodied red wine with firm tannins
offering ripe black berries integrated with notes of bitter mocha
chocolate and subtle caramel undertones which linger towards a pencil
shaving finish. Best enjoyed with roast beef, hearty casseroles,
venison and other savoury dishes. This is a full bodied Cabernet
Sauvignon which should preferably be accompanied by a delicious meal.
This wine can be drunk now but will gain complexity and elegance
in the next five to six years. |
Shiraz
Bright ruby in the glass. Ripe spicy yellow plums, some leather and
sweet red berry notes on the nose which follow through to the palate,
accompanied by whiffs of forest mushrooms and spicy, buttery fruit
cake flavours. Fuller bodied with spicy firm tannins and sweet red
berries which linger on the palate. Served well with smoked meats,
sausages, savoury foods and heavier pastas. Our Shiraz is also drinking
well now, offering plenty of spice! This wine will continue to improve
and gain complexity over the next two-three years. |
Pinotage
Dark bright ruby and purple edged hues with aromas of strawberry jam,
candy floss and hints of ripe banana on the nose. The palate of this
medium to full bodied wine displays good ripe fruits and red berry
flavours, punctuated by hints of ripe purple plums and fruit cake
spices. Firm tannins with a good mouth feel and a lingering sweet
finish of warm red berries, banana and toasted oak notes. Goes well
with beef, veal and pastas. This Pinotage has something special to
offer! Already offering secondary characteristics from some bottle
maturation, this wine is offering fantastic flavours and complexity.
It will however keep well under ideal cellar maturation for a further
three to four years. |
